Looking Back At The Season ’24-’25 – DFC Recap
October Kob Quest
We launched into our Kob Quest, which is up on YouTube if you haven’t seen it. Kob are one of those fish that just draw people in from all over the world.
They're not exactly hard-pulling brutes, but those heavy head shakes hit differently—your heart ends up in your throat real quick. Maybe that’s why guys keep coming back for them?
This particular trip was with two brothers from SA. Of course—classic timing—the kob were properly firing just a few days before they arrived. Still, the weather looked good, and we were hopeful. But the easterlies had other plans… they brought in huge shoals of bronzies early, and at that time of year, they absolutely blanket the beaches.
It’s wild to see and usually a blast—but not when you’re chasing kob. They munched through every live bait we had. Only by making some interesting tactical shifts did we manage to fool a couple good fish. No 80-pounder this time, but we did get a pair around the 50lb mark.
It made for a great video and a cool story.Of course, the next group arrived the very next day and got a 35kg kob on day one. Gotta love fishing!
November '24– Absolute Chaos (In the Best Way)
We beached over 50 bronzies in those weeks—most over 100kg—with a solid mix of diamond rays, smoothhounds, and the odd Raggie. On the edible side, we had more kob up to 15kg and Garrick into double digits. We hit a tricky patch in the middle of the month with a super passionate guest fromMayotte. The weather got messy—big swells, hard fishing—but we still managed some kob on lures, a decent black ray, and a big bronzie ticked off. He earned every bite.Honestly, November was one of the best months of fishing I’ve ever seen. Insane action, great people.
December '24 – Heat, Hustle & Hard Days
December brought guests from the Netherlands on a recce trip—plenty of filming and photography, and a lot of laughs. The passion was high, and when our team connects with that kind of energy, the whole trip just clicks. J-Bay was heating up, but mostly holding smaller fish, so we pushed down to Plett where the big sharks were waiting. This is where we thrive—we’ll travel, chase the bite, burn the fuel. It’s never just about the easiest spot—it’s about the best experience. We had returning clients from Singapore and first-timers from the U.S., and the results were mixed. Some had their best fishing days ever. Others got only a bite or two all day. That’s part of it. And while it was tough on the team (we set the bar high for ourselves),those few brilliant days in between kept us going.By mid-Jan, things picked up. UK guests on their fourth trip were after a new kind of experience. We went species hunting and gave them something fresh to remember.
February '25 – Hammers, Bulls & Big Battles
February saw the return of our Hungarian crew (also their 4th time!). They came in chasing some smaller shark species—especially hammerheads. The water stayed warm and clear, and hammers gave us consistent early morning action. We also welcomed first-time guests from Sweden. They kicked off with an epic game drive, but then... our car broke down. Bit of a mess on day one, but they were absolute legends. We pulled together, landed some solid raggies, and battled some serious black rays (Feb/March is peak). A few heartbreak losses in the surf, but also some amazing moments. The Hungarians decided to roll the dice on bull sharks—a rare, tough target. It's a high-risk, high-reward move, and you sacrifice a lot of other opportunities. We had two solid chances... both slipped away. Brutal, but that’s how it goes when you're hunting something truly special.
March & April '25 – Variety & Big Fish Galore
March brought Tight Lines Agency down with two groups for 6-day trips and game drives. The first crew came out swinging—nonstop Raggie action, bites almost every throw, and a monster 220kg fish from the sand! We also landed two black rays over 200kg. Unreal stuff. The second group included a well-known Belgian species hunter, and the mission was variety. We got them a great spread—big rays, raggies, cow sharks, and more. Bronzies had backed off a bit, but the others kept us busy. It was a pleasure spending time with these guys—solid anglers and good fun.We also had guests from Saudi Arabia, keen to try new methods and just soak in the fishery. More UK returners joined us, plus plenty of South Africans. One group came chasing a big kob—and got one! A 40kg beauty with our guide Luke. Seeing a fish like that on the sand is something special... and even better watching it swim off strong.
MAY '25 - GARRICK SEASON DELIVERS
I really enjoy the late season fishing, you can almost target any species, but my favourite fish to catch at the moment are Garrick. May brought us a great run of Garrick. Live bait was deadly effective, and we had loads of high-quality, catch-and-release action.Plenty on lures too, which always ups the excitement. In between we caught a few big bronzies as per usual, each year they return with the Garrick and some good Raggies too.
AND THAT'S A WRAP FOLKS!
We are super thankful to each and every client, every year we are blown away by the number of people that support us doing what we love! The next chapter is just around the corner — Mazeppa Bay is calling. We’ve still got some great weeks open in November, and if it’s anything like last year, it’s going to be wild. If you’re after big, catch-and-release shark action from the shore—and a serious fishing adventure — get in touch. We'd love to see you on the beach.
