Galjoen

The South African National Fish is a small but exciting catch! Adults are often found in the rough surf where rocks and sand mix, as well as in kelp beds and along sandy beaches. They can also be seen in large groups on offshore reefs. Juveniles stick to the shallow surf-zone. Even though these fish are usually quite small, they’re fun to catch, especially around rocky areas, and they put up a strong fight for their size!
