Hammerhead Shark

Although in South Africa we rarely encounter scalloped or smooth hammerheads over 20 kg, they are quite plentiful in the 10 to 18 kg range.

These sharks are incredible fighters for their size, making them a blast to catch on lighter tackle. The bite is intense, with them often screaming off, peeling line from your reel in the middle of nowhere. They can reach impressive speeds of up to 25 km/h. Additionally, they serve as a tasty snack for many of the larger sharks in our area!
